Job Description

  • Prepare rough drafts according to requirements

  • Combine hand-drawing and painting with digital media to create complete illustrations

  • Refine designs with illustration software

  • Use various colors, graphics, and effects to visualize each concept better

  • Format images using computer-aided design (CAD) software

  • Apply isometric techniques to add perspective to complex shapes

  • Participate in design briefs to identify the needs of clients

  • Ensure that printed illustrations meet quality and color standards

  • Ensure projects are completed with high quality and on schedule

  • Perform retouching and manipulation of images as requested by the client

  • Work with a wide range of media and use graphic design software

  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects within design specifications

 Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Customer service experience

  • Dependable transportation

  • Experience working within an education setting

  • Evidence of strong communication skills 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Major or significant coursework in Design, Visual Arts, or related disciplines is highly preferred

  • 2+ years of experience in the field of children’s book illustration

  • Proven work experience as an Illustrator, Graphic Designer, or similar role

  • Portfolio showing creative, design, and software skills or PDF that you can share with us

  • Hands-on experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software

  • Solid knowledge of image editing and digital sketching software, like Photoshop, Indesign, and Adobe Illustrator

  • Drawing skills with an attention to detail (both by hand and digital pen)

  • Strong aesthetic and conceptual skills

  • Ability to collaborate and meet deadlines

Additional Information

A position as Children’s Book Illustrator is contracted work with a flat price for the entire project. Each project will be negotiated to determine the cost of your services. The cost of the project will vary depending size of the client’s manuscript that needs an illustration. The company uses express pay to ensure that you get paid as quickly as possible.
